Frequently asked questions
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions regarding our league rules. We believe in transparency and want to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of how we operate. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
What is the most important rule to remember?
The most crucial rule to remember is regarding the registration fee. This fee will be collected at the captains meeting at the start of the season to avoid chasing around at the end of the season collecting fees.
How do player transfers work?
A player may transfer providing both team captains agree and the league are informed. Players can only transfer once during the league season and can’t change sides just for the cup. Only a registered player may play (nicknames are taken as unregistered). A player can be registered on the night before 19:30.
What happens if teams are level on points?
In the event of two teams finishing level on points and legs, there will be a deciding game played at a neutral venue.
What happens if a team disbands?
Should a team disband and reform, with three or more players, at either the same or a different venue then the team shall maintain their league status.
How does a game start?
The balls are racked as agreed. The table may not be moved after 19:00 on the day of the match. The away team should be given 10-15 minutes practice on match table providing they arrive in time allowing game to start on time. An area is to be reserved for the away team (6-8 seats). The start time shall be 19:30. All six doubles players must be present before the start of the third double. The latest time a singles player can arrive is when they are due to play.
What are the timings for matches?
Matches will start at 19:30 so the first double must start before 19:45 or the point is lost. If the team still has not arrived by 20:00 then the second double is lost. If the team still has not arrived by 20:15 then the third double is lost. The singles must start no later than 21:00. 9ft tables may be used.
How is the order of play determined?
Order of play is determined by the flip of a coin, preferably not on the pool table. The winning player/s can decide if they wish to break or not. All following games will alternate between the two teams.
What about postponements?
No games may be postponed, except for a religious reason or exceptional circumstances (includes attending a sporting event), if the opponent and league are given seven days’ notice. The rearranged match must take place within seven days of the original match at a time suitable to the other team. Should a team fail to inform their opponents that they shall not be playing 24 hours prior to the match then they shall pay a fee of 40 euro to the opposing venue to cover costs. Individual points shall be awarded for any game not played against an opponent but will not count towards player stats.
